As a company ACE has years of experience working with big power generation companies and have several of our engineers stationed permanently on UK power stations. So when the opportunity arose to work at Drax Power in North Yorkshire alongside CBRE, a global workplace solutions company, ACE were ideally suited for the task.

With such an impressive history, The Ace Group were delighted when we secured a contract with CBRE for Drax Power Station in Selby, North Yorkshire.

Over 1900 Air Conditioning and Refrigeration Assets

The contract began at the start of May and involves ACE having complete responsibility for all of the air conditioning and refrigeration assets on the 3960 megawatt site. We also hope to progress into covering the majority of the compressed air assets, offering a truly under one roof service which would increase efficiency for the customer as well as making our services more cost effective. The CBRE contract is being looked after by Josh Riley, the Contract Manager for ACEs Air Conditioning Division. With over 1900 Air Conditioning and Refrigeration assets on site its a full time job! Therefore there is a team of 2 specialised engineers who will be permanently stationed and whom will be joined by other engineers during periods of high demand.

A Growing Venture

The ACE engineers will have sole responsibility for all air conditioning installation and maintenance projects on the site and will be based in a dedicated cabin with CBRE staff. This new contract marks the start of a fruitful working relationship between our two companies and a venture that will surely grow in the future.

ACE Showcases it's Products and Services at Made in Yorkshire Exhibition 2018

The much anticipated Made in Yorkshire Exhibition 2018 took place on Thursday 17th May and ACE were proud to be there in full force, exhibiting as Gold Members on stand 23.

The event was well attended by an array of companies of all sizes from all over Yorkshire and beyond. The ACE stand was hosted by Managing Director, Mark Peacock, Group Sales Manager, Chris Hyde, Marketing and Health & Safety Manager, Hannah France and Sales Team Representatives Liam Bailey and Gareth Pilmer. We were also joined by Gardner Denver Area Sales Manager, Chris Camsell. The stand was well appointed with example compressed air products and accessories as well as a working indoor and outdoor air conditioning unit which kept guests cool as they attended the stand.

Uniting Yorkshire

As well as close to 100 exhibition stands there was also a seminar room where presentations were given throughout the day from prominent Yorkshire figures. John Prescott, former Deputy Prime Minister and Labour Party Politician also attended the event and gave a presentation as a keynote speaker on uniting Yorkshire industries to further economic growth.

Stand 23 was buzzing for most of the day with visitors talking with our Sales Team or with Managing Director, Mark Peacock. Many of whom were keen to discuss using ACEs products and services within their own companies. We were able to gain many new contacts for potential customers as well as discuss plenty of opportunities for mutual commerce. Business cards were exchanged, ACE Group merchandise was given out (our bags, fluffy bugs and footballs were particularly popular) and everyone left our stand with plenty of information on our products and services.

A Great Opportunity

Our first year at the Made in Yorkshire Exhibition was certainly a success. It was a great opportunity to network with other Yorkshire based business and showcase all that we have to offer. ACE will certainly be making the most of our Gold membership and we are already looking forward to next years expo which is set to be even bigger!

ACE Supports Timber Frame Manufacture, Frame-Tech, in Their Huddersfield Expansion

ACE Sales and Installations Make For a Successful Team

In early April our Sales and Installations teams once again proved they are a potent combination with another successful compressed air system installation. Frame-tech, who design and manufacture timber frames for building construction, were expanding and had opened a new factory in Rastrick, Huddersfield, just a stones throw from ACEs Head Office. The company expansion meant that they had further demand for compressed air on their new site and being an existing customer of The Ace Group, they turned to us first.

Frame-Tech Expands Into the Huddersfield Area

Frame-tech was established in 2008 and is based in Dewsbury. In the last ten years the young team has driven the company forward resulting in a growing customer base. This increased demand has lead way to expansion into the Huddersfield area, hence the opening of a new factory in Rastrick. Frame-techs requirement for compressed air was driven by their use of air tools and automated machinery or Computer Numerical Control machines (CNCs). These are used in the manufacturing of the timber frames. The company offers a bespoke design and manufacturing service providing a timber frames for social housing projects, multi-storey apartment blocks and public sector buildings such as hotels and care homes. They are a cost effective alternative to steel frame constructions and are quicker to manufacturer thus allowing a quicker build time for developers.

Industry Leading Products Combined with Engineering Expertise

Using their expert knowledge our Sales team were able to recommend a combination of equipment suitable for the application and as always that involved industry leading products. The compressed air system was made up of a Gardner Denver ESM22 Compressor, Beko RA 240 Refrigerant Dryer, a 500 litre receiver and a Gardner Denver DW10 Oil Water Separator and was installed along with a ring main connecting all three buildings at the new Rastrick factory. All elements were installed by Matt Woods, Connor Roberts and Tom Cogan, all engineers within the Installation department. The system was then commissioned by ACEs dedicated Energy Consultant, Liam Bailey.

Minimal Downtime= Maximum Efficiency

ACE hopes to continue work with Frame-tech into the future having already had discussions about a back up compressor for the site to further increase efficiency. We also hope that in due course we will be able to secure a service contract to cover both of the manufacturing sites and enabling them to keep everything under one roof.

Ace Group To Be Presented With Manufacturing Hero Award

Ace Group is excited to announce that we have been named 'Manufacturing Hero' by the distinguished Made in Group.

The Manufacturing Heroes recognition is a campaign set up by Made in Group, to celebrate manufacturers within the membership group who have demonstrated strength in a time of crisis.

Trade associated Made in Group began this to highlight the achievements of UK manufacturers who worked tirelessly throughout the pandemic, which was started with those who participated in the UK Ventilator Challenge to help save lives. Made in Group have voiced their view that government procurement for the NHS had failed over a preference to source from overseas suppliers and overlooked the quality manufacturing talent domestically.

Ultimately, all ‘Manufacturing Heroes’ will be presented with a specially commissioned badge manufactured in the world-renowned Midlands Jewellery Qtr by Thomas Fattorini Ltd, a company based in Birmingham and who were granted a Royal Warrant of Appointment to Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II in 2008. Many of these recognition ceremonies have taken place in 2021, with Made in Group planning to continue the recognition ceremony into 2022 with more companies to be announced in the near future.

Here at the Ace Group we were nominated for continuing to provide compressor air to the medical sector and its customers, including providing vital compressed air to nightingale hospitals.

10 Strange Places You Might Find a Compressor!

Youd be surprised at just how many places youd find industrial air compressors, they are just about everywhere! Compressed air is involved in some way in the production of almost everything we use on a day to day basis and also has many obscure uses for things the average person may never come across. At The Ace Group we supply, install and service compressors for a huge variety of applications from recycling plants to childrens television programs. Below is a list of weird and wonderful applications where compressed air is in use.

1. Bottle it up

Next time you take a sip of a soft drink or bottle of beer youll know that compressed air is used in the process of bottle blowing. During the process heated plastic or glass is blown under high pressure into a cooled mould to form the desired shape. This process often requires high pressure compressors such as those produced by Belliss & Morcom and Reavell. Uncontaminated air for the food and drink industry is something The Ace Group are experts in as well associated services such as process filtration.

2. Superfast recycling

In many recycling plants compressed air is used to sort materials. Recycled items are loaded onto conveyor belts and passed through scanners which detect the substance of each item. High pressure jets of air then sort the materials so they are separated into plastics, glass, paper and organic matter and any unwanted materials are disposed of. This job would have previously been done by hand significantly slowing the process and increasing costs.

3. Have your cake and eat it

The mass production of iced cakes is strangely mesmeric. Cooled cakes make their way down a conveyor where they meet with icing nozzles. Powered by compressed air and with amazing precision, icing is piped onto the sponge in the desired pattern in a matter of seconds. It is compressed air that forces the icing through the nozzle and onto the cake.

4. White knuckle rides

Compressed air can be found all over theme parks as it is used in many elements of the park attractions. The gates that are used to allow the specified number of people onto a ride at a time are powered by compressed air in many cases. The safety restraints on most roller coasters are also controlled by compressed air and that hissing sound you hear when the ride comes to an abrupt stop?..Yes, thats compressed air too, powering the brakes. Many of the larger Gardner Denver Compressors would suit this application.

Compair compressors have also been used for smaller fairground rides such as dodgems!

5. Injecting life into teddy bears

A well known high street brand who invites its customers to make their own teddy bears, uses compressed air to propel stuffing into the bears and turn them from a floppy piece of material into a cuddly toy. A small Hydrovane Compressor would be perfect for this role.

6. TV madness and mayhem

For several years Ace has provided a small Hydrovane compressor for use on a childrens TV gameshow. The compressor is used to power two small cannons which fire foam balls at the shows hosts and contestants.

7. Baking the Holy Sacrament

One of the most obscure places that a member of The Ace Group has supplied industrial air compressors to was to a local nuns convent. The compressor was used as an air assist on an industrial oven which made the sacramental bread for Holy Communion.

8. In the Development of Aircraft

Compressed air was once used for the purpose of creating supersonic simulation in the development of the Vulcan bomber! At ACE our compressors have been used to fire supermarket chickens at a Tornedos cockpit screen in order to replicate a bird strike. a fair few screens failed the test due to the chickens not being fully defrosted!!!

9. Bringing You Your Morning Milk

We work with many dairies around the country where our compressed air powers advanced milking systems and irrigates the milk in storage tanks. Some large dairy farms have such complex milking parlour systems where there is minimal human supervision required so there is a huge need for compressed air and also vacuum.

10. And Your Morning Brew!

Yes thats right. We are responsible for all elements to your morning cup of tea! One of our large customers uses compressed air in the manufacturing of tea bags. In fact, chances are that the majority of your breakfast and even lunch and dinner have come into contact with compressed air at some point during their production. Compressed air is everywhere!

A Successful 40 Year Old Business

This month we were lucky enough to be invited on to site of family owned business N.L. Williams. We met with Barry Williams, Managing Director and Bob Griffiths, Compliance Coordinator, to see how their long standing relationship with The Ace Group has grown over the last decade.

The successful 40 year old business initially began under the knowledgeable eye of Barrys father and has been continued on by Barry himself resulting in four decades of growth and expansion. It started life predominantly as a fabrication company but due to demand began to focus more on coatings which included the development of some of their own products such as anti-slip surface coatings and patenting blasting equipment. The direction of the company has always been customer driven which is perhaps why it has continued to be so successful. The company is a one stop shop making it a popular choice for many sectors including food production, pharmaceuticals, offshore, nuclear and rail.

Compressed Air An Essential Commodity

The Ace Group provide N.L. Williams with their most significant and essential commodity, compressed air. The compressor systems on site power such machinery as paint sprayers, shot blasters and breathing air systems. Without compressed air the production would cease, so it is imperative that downtime is minimalized. Following advice from Ace, NL Williams completely overhauled their previous compressed air system by replacing it with one Sullair Fixed Speed compressor and another Variable Speed Drive compressor to kick in when necessary as well as a backup compressor in case of the unlikely event of a breakdown. Barry Williams was clearly impressed by the ongoing reliable and efficient performance of the machines that we installed. He informed us that he would be reluctant to move away from the Sullair brand with the knowledge that they are currently achieving a very high quality of air and have experienced very few problems in the last decade since the compressors were installed.

Proactive in Providing Preventative Maintenance

Speaking to Bob Griffiths, we found that the company was also particularly pleased with our service department describing them as proactive in providing preventative maintenance. With our engineers attending site in a punctual and well-coordinated manner it is rare for the machines to go down. Reassurance has been offered on several occasions by engineer Chad Combe, whose exceptional product knowledge ensures that the compressors are running optimally. Both Bob and Barry find it easy to correspond with Martin Bates, Aces Service Coordinator, describing him as well informed and quick to rectify any small problems that arise.

The Power of Word of Mouth

Just like Ace, N.L. Williams initially built their business on the power of word of mouth. Over the years our two companies have established a strong and positive relationship which has resulted in business recommendations from both sides. ACE Group’s Cool & Heat team undergo special training at Daikin

The Cool & Heat team at The ACE Group has completed a bespoke training session organised by air conditioning and refrigeration supplier, Daikin.

The training was the first of its kind for Daikin and tailor-made for the Cool & Heat department who were all required to attend - including managers and office staff.

One day with a full team of engineers off the road is quite an expense to the company but it demonstrated the huge value proper training can bring.

The training, held at Trafford Park, was attended by several Daikin staff members including Tom Hookway, Mark Smith and Steve Warrington, a Daikin engineer.

Tom kicked off the day with a presentation on the chiller product range and gave the Cool & Heat engineers plenty of time to discuss the products and ask questions.

Next up was Mark Smith who discussed ventilation and AHU, who also encouraged engineers to talk about the range so they could better understand the products.

Lastly, Steve Warrington spoke to the team about service and Bluetooth checkers as well as offering a demonstration of the product range.

The ACE team were also given a full tour of the Daikin showroom and shown examples of the equipment across the range.

Cool & Heat has been a Daikin D1 distributor for two years and the products remain popular with our customers due to their efficiency and performance. Daikin is consistently developing new technologies so training days, such as this one, allow our engineers to be at the forefront of that development.

The Ace Group Secures 1.4 Megawatt Compressor Order!

Over the past 18 months, The ACE Group has been working closely with one of the major kitchen manufacturers in the UK. The company required energy-efficient, high air quality solutions for the three new factories that they were building.

As their incumbent service provider for their existing four factories, where ACE provide full all-inclusive service contracts for their existing compressed air equipment. We were asked to provide energy-efficient, cost effect compressed air solutions, coupled with this customers air quality requirements of better than ISO 8573.1 class1:2:1 air.

The customer also required a full turnkey solution that not only provides them with all the compressed air equipment required but also a full installations and distribution network along with ongoing service contracts once the equipment was installed and commissioned. Based on this customers specification we have provided a total of 1.4 Megawatts of compressors and matching hybrid dryers to ensure that the exact requirements were met. These factories also required miles of distribution pipework which was all part of the full turnkey solution that ACE Group were able to provide.

The ACE Group were also able to help with concerns the customer had, by recommending the installation of the latest control systems from Energair. This ensured that compressors ran at optimum energy consumption levels while meeting the demand of the factory. All equipment that was supplied and installed, will be maintained by The ACE Group who now provide total care service contracts for all six sites. As the business relationship continues the ACE Group have ensured that any new innovations or better-compressed air solutions are presented to the customer ensuring the most energy-efficient and effective equipment is employed on all the sites that are looked after.

In total, The ACE Group will supply 1,4 Megawatt of compressor power to this manufacturing company.

Success at 'Meeting Your Energy Goals at Old Trafford'

Last week we hosted our energy seminar 'Meeting Your Energy Goals at Old Trafford' and are proud to say it was a huge success.

Set high above the stands in the Stretford Suite at such an iconic football ground, the event brought in many of our customers from all over the country. We were joined by representatives from Gardner Denver, Daikin and Hubbard who each delivered an engaging presentation on energy efficiency technology developments as well as their product ranges designed to reduce energy consumption. The event was also attended by IMSM who talked about ISO50001 and its benefits to our customers. ISO50001 is a brilliant accreditation to aim for to align one's company with standards associated with beneficial energy reduction in order to both help the environment and save money!

A fantastic day was had by all and we look forward to hosting more events like this in the future!

Sales and Installations Bring Home a Big Win

The Ace Group has over 20 years of experience in the compressed air industry, supplying, installing and maintaining compressed air systems for a huge variety of applications across the UK.

Proven Success

In recent years our Installation Division has grown due to increased demand for our expert team of Install Engineers led by Manager, Anthony Foale. This increase in demand has been fuelled by our knowledgeable Sales Team who are usually the first people on site to discuss each individual customers specific needs. The strength of our Sales Team, led by Chris Hyde, and proven expertise of our Installation Engineers has become a potent combination resulting in many large business wins in recent years.

One of the Largest Wins in Ace Group History

In the last couple of months Sales and Installations have once again pulled together to produce one of the largest installation wins in Aces 20 year history. This upcoming project will see our engineers installing an extensive range of new equipment in a large canning factory in the midlands. The factory is in the process of replacing the majority of its heavy plant production line machinery and our team have already begun the work. The bulk of the installation will be carried out over four months and Ace has won three large equipment orders relating to this project.

Pipework and Much Much More

A significant part of this project involves reinstating all necessary pipework to the new production line machinery as it arrives on site. Alongside this, some of the services that our engineers are due to install include low pressure compressed air, high pressure compressed air, vacuum, natural gas, deionized water, city water, cooling water, coolant and chilled water.

In addition to this Ace is also installing chilled water systems for the factorys Decorator and a coolant system for their Body Maker machines. The Decorator is responsible for adding and embossing colour to the cans to create the designs we are familiar with across many beverage brands. The ink used in this process is temperature sensitive and so the chilled water system will allow for a precision controlled appropriate temperature to a within 0.1 degrees centigrade. The Body Makers transform the preformed aluminium into a more recognisable can shape, a process which requires both lubrication and heat removal. These two needs are met by the installation of the coolant system.

Expanding Our Horizons

ACE Group provides compressors for NHS Nightingale Hospitals

The recent Coronavirus pandemic has meant that hard times have fallen on almost all industry sectors with some establishments such as hospitals and supermarkets being under strain to meet the huge demand.

Since the commencement of lockdown, The ACE Group and Cool & Heat have been continuing to provide a service to our customers, many of whom are considered key industries and who have been essential in keeping our fellow Britains fed and cared for.

One such project that ACE has been involved in is providing compressors for breathing air plants in use at the temporary Coronavirus hospitals set up at the ExCel, London and in other parts of the country. ACE delivered the first compressors on the 1st of April and even appeared on the News having been filmed unloading the machines. Breathing air has been essential in the care of Coronavirus patients with one of the symptoms being breathing difficulties. ACE is proud to have supported NHS Nightingale along with other temporary hospitals up and down the country.

Our Cool & Heat team have also provided service continuity to their customers. The team provide essential air conditioning to a prominent television station who has been at the forefront of providing news and information to the public as the pandemic has developed. Cool and Heat have remained busy throughout the lockdown ensuring that their customers receive the same high level of service with added adherence to current health and safety guidance.

Our Parts team have also continued to support our Service Departments and supply vital parts to customers all over the UK. The ACE Group and Cool & Heat are proud to have weathered the storm so far and will continue to provide the highest level of service to our customers.
